Betting tips for Liverpool vs Rangers: Champions League preview and odds – The Telegraph

Our expert backs over 4.5 goals in his betting tips for Tuesday’s Champions League clash between Liverpool and Rangers
On Tuesday it’s the first ‘Battle of Britain’ in this season’s Champions League as out-of-form Liverpool host Rangers at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s team continued their stuttering start to the season on Saturday with a 3-3 home draw against Brighton at Anfield.
Injury problems have played their part but Liverpool have looked uncharacteristically sloppy, particularly in defence. Rangers have lost both their Champions League group stage games so far and need to get a positive result on Merseyside to keep themselves in the race for the knockout stages.

Liverpool have been a shadow of the team who came within two matches of an unprecedented quadruple last season.
Conceding goals has become a real problem for the Reds and they shipped three more on Saturday, with Leandro Trossard completing a hat-trick for Brighton.
Liverpool were also thumped 4-1 by Napoli in their Champions League opener before edging past Ajax 2-1 in their next European outing.
Rangers head to Anfield aiming for a third straight win, having defeated Dundee United and Hearts, but the step up to European football has proven difficult with heavy defeats at the hands of Ajax and Napoli.
Liverpool’s defensive deficiencies are there for all to see but there are still questions over the Gers’ quality at this level and the Reds should be able to get through unscarhed
Tip: Liverpool to win and both teams to score @ 6/4 with Betfred
Croatian Antonio Colak has so far proved an excellent acquisition up front for Rangers within 11 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions, including four in his last two outings.
Scoring in the really big games has evaded the 29-year-old so far this season – he hasn’t found the net in either group game or the Old Firm derby this season.
However, Colak will approach this contest full of confidence and he is likely to be given chances to find the back of the net based on Liverpool’s recent defending.
Tip: Antonio Colak to score at any time @ 19/5 with Betfred
The way both teams have been playing recently suggests there could be a few goals at Anfield.
Nine Premier League and Champions League games involving Liverpool this season have produced 35 goals at an average of just under four a game.
Liverpool’s openness at the back was on display yet again against Brighton and, if they don’t sharpen up, they will be punished by a Rangers team who likes to attack under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Gers have scored 20 times in eight Scottish Premiership matches but the seven conceded in the Champions League so far shows they are not watertight.
Tip: Total goals over 4.5 @ 15/8 with Betfred
