East Catholic Survives Cold, Top Seed To Win Girls Soccer … – Patch

HARTFORD, CT — On a windy, cold autumn afternoon at Trinity Health Stadium, East Catholic broke a scoreless deadlock with Lyman Memorial late in the first half and made that lone goal stand up, emerging with a 1-0 victory in the Class S girls soccer championship game.
Neither team had many scoring opportunities, as winds whipping around 35 miles an hour wreaked havoc with the soccer ball. The Eagles finally broke through with 2:39 remaining before intermission, as tri-captain Sydney Ledoux converted a setup from teammate Anya Tansil to score what proved to be the only tally of the contest.
Ledoux was voted by game officials as the most valuable player. As her teammates excitedly huddled near the giant video screen for a photo, they chanted, “MVP! MVP!”
Goalkeeper Marina Juan played well in earning the shutout for the second-seeded Eagles.
East Catholic won its first state championship since capturing the Class M crown in 2014. Lyman Memorial was making its first appearance in the state finals.
