Chennai: Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Thursday announced that kindergarten sections will continue in 2,381 government schools across the state. The Minister also said that special teachers will be deployed to handle the classes.
The announcement of the Minister to continue the classes comes amid political parties and educationists condemning the government for their decision to close the kindergarten sections.
According to a report on Times of India, the Minister in a statement said, accepting the demands of various sections of the public the government has decided to continue with LKG and UKG classes in government schools as per CM’s advice.
Additional special teachers will also be appointed to handle the classes, he said.

Further, the Minister said,  the school education department started 3,000 additional KG sections as seven lakh students switched from private schools to government schools last year.
However, due to the shortage of teachers in government schools, surplus teachers from KGs were transferred to primary classes. As a result, the government made arrangements to change KGs into anganwadi centres. But considering the plea of the people the classes will be continued, he said.
